Vanessa Corrigall Wins Talent Prize Award in International Water Art Competition
I’m honored to share that I’ve been selected as one of the Talent Prize Award Winners in the 8th Teravarna International Water Juried Art Competition (September 2025). Out of 344 artists from 36 countries, only 25 artists worldwide were chosen for this distinction.
This award is an exciting recognition of my ongoing exploration of water in contemporary painting, and it affirms the value of my work for collectors who are drawn to serene, reflective, and meaningful art.
What the Talent Prize Means
Competitions like Teravarna’s bring together artists from across the globe, spanning a wide range of styles and interpretations. To be selected from hundreds of submissions for the Talent Prize reflects both technical skill and a unique artistic voice.
For art collectors, this matters. Recognition in international juried competitions adds credibility, prestige, and long-term value to a collection. It means that your investment in my work isn’t just about beauty—it’s about becoming part of an artistic journey that’s gaining international recognition.
My Educational Foundation
Behind every painting is a foundation of learning and intention. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a specialization in Painting, which gave me not only years of technical training but also the discipline to understand how art functions as both craft and communication.
Specializing in painting meant diving deep into color theory, light, layering, and composition—skills that now allow me to capture the subtle glow, depth, and emotion of underwater scenes. My education also instilled a purpose: to create work that connects people through visual storytelling and meaningful reflection.
For collectors, this background underscores that each piece you bring into your home is not accidental—it is grounded in years of rigorous study, practice, and refinement.
My Connection to Water
Water has always been central to my art. My underwater swimmer paintings explore the calm, dreamlike weightlessness beneath the surface, blending Alberta’s lived experiences of lakes, pools, and rivers with universal themes of reflection, memory, and renewal.
Through layered acrylics, translucent effects, and soft light, I aim to capture the way water both reveals and conceals, holding moments of peace while hinting at mystery.
Water is not only a subject—it’s a metaphor for the depths of emotion, the passing of time, and the way we carry experiences within us.
This painting captures the quiet moment of floating with eyes closed, face half-submerged as ripples of green and turquoise water move around. The brushstrokes shimmer with layered light, evoking memories of summer swims and the soothing calm of being held by water. Its smaller scale makes it a versatile piece—perfect for bedrooms, reading nooks, or to add intimacy within a gallery wall.
Through sunlit waters & Beneath the lake – Water Diptych
Two paintings, each 11 x 14 in, acrylic on canvas
Together, these two works capture the meditative experience of moving through water—eyes closed in quiet reflection, then gliding forward with ease. The luminous green and turquoise tones ripple across both canvases, creating a natural rhythm that connects the pieces. As a diptych, they invite viewers to feel the balance between stillness and motion, making them a striking pair for bedrooms, offices, or intimate gallery walls. Displayed side by side, they bring the soothing memory of summer swims into your space.
Acrylic on Canvas. (Frame not included).

The painting has two layers of an isolation coat and then two layers of a satin varnish. This seals the acrylic work with a transparent satin acrylic layer which is breathable, permanent, and protects against UV damage.

Final Reflection
Winning the Talent Prize Award is both humbling and motivating. It connects my formal training in painting, my lifelong fascination with water, and my ongoing dedication to creating work that invites reflection and calm.
For those who collect my work, this recognition adds to the story behind each piece: a journey of education, exploration, and now, international acknowledgment.
